Basra Heat prevails in Ankara: Thermometers hit 42 degrees

Scorching heat continues to overwhelm the Capital

ANKARA – In Ankara, which is under the influence of Basra heat, thermometers showed 42 degrees, while the temperature felt was 50 degrees.

The ‘Basra heat’, which replaced the ‘Ayyam-i Bahur’ heat that lost its effect last week, began to show its effect in Ankara. In Kızılay Square, one of the most crowded squares in Ankara, thermometers showed 42 degrees, while the temperature felt was 50 degrees. Experts warned that citizens should not go out, especially between 11.00 and 16.00. Citizens who had to work outside and went shopping reported that they consumed liters of cold water a day.

“Ankara’s heat is very different and a dry heat”

Stating that Ankara’s heat is different from all other provinces, that it is very sweltering because it is a dry heat and that it constantly consumes cold water, Kayhan Büyükkayıkçı said, “The weather is very hot. I stop by the shopkeepers, I shop. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the heat. My tongue and palate dried out. I drink water every half hour. I am used to the heat, but the heat of Ankara is very different and it is a dry heat. We were puzzled what to do. I constantly cool my head with cold mineral water. In the evenings, I try to cool off by watching the stars on the balcony. I don’t go out unless I can. I try not to go out even if we are very bored at home. May Allah help everyone, the weather is very hot.”

“We became brown because I had to work outside for 10 hours a day”

İsmail Gümüşsoy, who stated that he worked outside for 10 hours a day because he was a peddler and that even his skin color changed due to the extreme heat, said, “We became brown because I had to work outside for 10 hours a day. We are not happy with the heat but there is nothing to do. I can’t take any precautions because I work outside. The sun burns until the evening. Then we go home and try to cool off. We take a shower constantly in the morning and evening. I drink almost 5 liters of water a day.”

“We sell more than 400 parcels of water a day”

Stating that water sales increased 10 times especially in these months and that they had difficulty in growing water in the cabinets, buffet operator İbrahim Yağcı said, “We try not to wear dark clothes. We always try to stay in the shadows. We constantly consume cold water. I consume 5-6 liters of water per day. In these months, our water sales increase 10 times. We sell more than 400 parcels of water a day.”
